ENG-W 269/6 (92 ov, Katherine Brunt 7*, Sophia Dunkley 12*,

6.35pm That’s stumps and what a session that turned out to be to turn things around! England were 162 for 2 at tea and it looked like Heather Knight was going on towards her Test century and England for a commanding total. But offspinners Deepti Sharma and Sneha Rana, two debutants who hardly looked penetrating earlier, suddenly struck with the quick wickets of Nat Sciver, Amy Jones, Knight and Georgia Elwiss to reduce the hosts to 251 for 6, with three wickets for Rana and two for Deepti. But India will also rue the chances they put down, one by Mandhana early on and one by Deepti. England’s top order looked solid and comfortable earlier after they opted to bat, and Mithali Raj used Jhulan Goswami a fair bit in the first two sessions before her pace started to decrease a bit.

Dunkley on Sky: “I was pretty nervous. Big occasion today, very special to me. I felt ready to go. We lost a few wickets just before I went in so it was about trying to be brave, being positive, but looking to score and staying in until the end of the day. Feeling good, hopefully did a job and we’ll go again in the morning and see where we can get ourselves.”

That’s all we have for today, the first day from Bristol, as Matt and I, Vishal Dikshit, signoff. Catch us tomorrow again with this match placed much better than it was an hour or two ago. Good night!

Vivaan : “This is a very good comeback from India, anything under 320 – 330, would be good, considering India do have a formidable batting line up”
